		<description>Hi Helen,

You are right that prophecy will usually encourage and confirm direction for us. God wants His children to be mature and expects us to hear His voice ourselves and not be dependent on another.

Here is a story I heard a while ago:

A visiting speaker preaches and afterward one of the church members approaches him with a prophecy that he is to go to Africa and will share the Good News that God loves them with a remote tribe deep in the bush. The visiting speaker then insists the local member accompany him. The local member is quite taken aback. The visiting speaker explains that he truly believes it is important to serve God fully and in every way, and that he would not want to fail God through not hearing accurately all that God was calling him to do, and that since he had totally missed this particular call then the only way he could be sure of following God fully in future was if the local member came with him since he clearly needed his better hearing. And surely God would not have revealed this direction to the local member unless He wanted him on the journey too.

In the end neither went to Africa.

Your advice about testing and letting it sit is quite correct. Paul said that now we see dimly and only know in part (1 Corinthians 13:9-12) so the implication is that it must be tested for complete accuracy is beyond us in this world. And the perspective of others is valuable.

Hence the concept of Prophet People and not just Prophetic Person.

Great post Helen,

Keep up the good work,
