Hi Ray, I love that insight from the scripture in Jeremiah! It is a great lead-in to my next post, which is on how to receive a revelation from God.
And I am so thankful, too, for the Church community. It is the best and safe place to develop the prophetic gift.

I always liked the part in Jeremiah where God is teaching him how to be a prophet. This is in Chapter 1 of the book of Jeremiah.

Here we see some word plays that aren't understandable in English. Fortunately my study Bible does explain it or I wouldn't have understood either.

The almond tree is also called the watcher. The roots of almond and watch are the same. It has this name for 2 reasons. The first is that the almond is shaped like an eye. The second is that the almond tree is the first to respond to spring, as if it was watching for the season and it picked it up before anything else.

So God asks Jeremiah what he "sees" and Jeremiah responds that he sees a branch of the almond tree (also called a rod of almond) and God is pleased and commends him explaining that God is watching to see that His Word is fulfilled. We see how the word play works out when we understand the relationship between the words.

Today it is still much the same. Without context, we won't understand. And without training we don't learn how the process works.

And of course your previous post http://enlivenpublishing.com/blog/2009/11/07/not-word-perfect-understanding-how-prophetic-ministry-works-in-the-church-today/ shows that prophetic process is a body ministry rather than an individual one, so it is always important that words are delivered in an accountable way with others to help process them.

I am looking forward to the next installment.

Thanks Mary, I love making prophecy and prayer easier for people to understand and to learn. I would love to see more people have a go...
